Welcome to VALMIERA MUSEUM!
The Valmiera Museum is one of the most significant repositories of historical values in the Vidzeme Region. Founded in 1959, it is situated in a complex of buildings constructed, reconstructed, and restored from the 18th to the 21st century. These buildings are located on the site of the ruins of the Valmiera castle of the Livonian Order.
The museum’s collection comprises approximately 70,000 items, including evidence and materials related to the territory of Valmiera county from the earliest times to the present day.
The museum’s operation is facilitated through the collaborative efforts of three departments: The Collection Department, The History Department, and The Exhibitions and Events Department. This collaboration enables the museum to offer a wide range of historical and art exhibitions, educate students, and maintain communication with the public.
The museum’s permanent exhibition “de Woldemer” takes visitors into the story of ancient Valmiera. The oldest history of the town and castle, the world views of the Valmierians of the past, the might of the Hanseatic merchants and the skills of the craftsmen meet there. Accompanied by a guide or individually, you are welcome to take a tour of the exhibition. The exhibition is available in Latvian, English, German, Estonian and Russian. The building of “de Woldemer” also houses the Valmiera Tourism Information Center.
In addition to the rich historical collection, there are temporary art exhibitions in The Exhibition Hall.
