Reading room
In the Museum reading room it is possible to get acquainted with books on history, archeology, politics, museology, ethnography and art. A significant part of the books is thematically related to Valmiera, Vidzeme and Latvia.
In the reading room you can also find books published in Valmiera. Some of them are already at the beginning of the 20th century published editions of the printing house “Dūnis” or of the publishing company “Zeme”. The German, French, Russian and Estonian dictionaries, the oldest of which were published in the 19th century, will be useful for historical and linguistic research.
In the reading room it is also possible to work with materials from the paper collection of the Valmiera Museum – documents, expedition materials, photographs, books, and the press. The materials of the collection are partly available in digital form, but in order to work with the originals, the permission of the Collection Department of the Valmiera Museum is required.
Regional press publications are also available: “Valmierietis” (1929–1940), “Tālavietis” (1941–1944), “Liesma” (from 1945) and its literary supplement “Valmierietis” (from 2003).
