An art exhibition “Parallel” of Latvian artists Vija Zariņa and Kaspars Zariņš (until 12th May)

In the art month in the two storeys of the Valmiera Museum exhibition hall will be viewed an art exhibition “Parallel” of Latvian artists Vija Zariņa and Kaspars Zariņš.

More than 30 years life of Vija and Kaspars goes on together. It is in such a way both on weekday, and in the art. They both are painters and teaching staff of the Department of Painting of the Latvian Academy of Art.

This project is two personal exhibitions at the same time.

They don’t work together at the same artwork, each of them develops and realizes own way of art separately, looking for one`s individuality and own vision – both – visually and substantively.

Each of them has organized more than twenty exhibitions, as well as they have been participants in exhibitions of their friends and in the group exhibitions both in Latvia, and in foreign countries.

This time Vija in her exhibition part has explored contemporary landscape code of Latvia in different seasons and lightings. Her ambition in the painting is to provide a feeling of the era for audience, so that the viewer could say – yes, this is my Latvia. A large-format oil painting is a strong message in its true vision and in its visual purity of form.

In the turn, Kaspars continues his recently started way of abstract painting, which is a mix of acrylic paint and of caved and of ground plywood in this exhibition. Kaspars discover the natural materiality of plywood, exposed it by layers.

This combination between the painted and the caved provides for viewers unprecedented and true emotions that are rooted in the heart of artist.

In September-October 2017 a part of the artworks were exhibited in the exhibition hall “Arsenāls” of Latvian National Museum of Art in the personal exhibition “Parallel” of Vija and Kārlis Zariņi. For this achievement artists received a year`s award of Latvian TV and Latvian Radio “A Kilo With Culture 2017” in visual arts.
